Summer of the Arts creates nearly 100 premier opportunies for musicians, Iowa Filmmakers,  and other stage performers to showcase their talents throughout our 4 month season.  Below is a bit of information about who we are interested in booking for each of our festivals. All promo packages can be sent to the Executive Director for Summer of the Arts, Katie Roche, and will be distributed through her office to the appropriate festival stages for consideration.  Please indicate in your cover letter at which festival/s you are interested in performing.  Due to the extremely high number of submissions, only those that we are interested in booking will be contacted. Please rest assured that promo packages are kept for over one year, if not longer.  Emails referencing online promo packages will be reviewed.  Please be advised that we only hire/show work that is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Snail Mail:  P.O. Box 3128, Iowa City, Iowa 52244

Email: Katie@summerofthearts.org  (please include the name of the act and the words "promo package" only in the subject line of the email)

  • The Friday Night Concert Series: FNCS books Johnson County bands only. At least one member of the band must reside in Johnson County or the band must be considered a "Johnson County" band. This consideration is at the sole discretion of the FNCS booking committee.
  • The Saturday Night Free Movie Series: Iowa Filmmakers are encouraged to send a DVD of their short film (under 25 minutes) and feature length films.  Musicians are also hired for this series. Bands of all sizes and styles are encouraged to submit materials, though smaller bands are hired more often. Artists from the area, or with ties to the area are given first consideration.
  • The Iowa Arts Festival: Children’s performers of all kinds are featured for our Global Village and Children’s Day activities. Strolling performers are sometimes hired. Our main stage typically features local openers and well-known national or international headliners.
  • The Iowa City Jazz Festival: NO LONGER TAKING 2007 SUBMISSIONS. As one of the nation’s top 10 jazz festivals, The Iowa City Jazz Festival features well-known national and international acts on the main stage.  Three side stages feature performers in the following areas: "Youth" (performers high school age and younger), "College" (performers associated with a college or university), and “Local" (musicians from the Iowa City Area).
  • The Iowa Picture Show: Thanks to a generous grant from the Iowa Arts Council, Summer of the Arts continues to create opportunities for Iowa Filmmakers to show their work at all events excluding The Friday Night Concert Series. All genres, lengths, and ratings can be submitted in DVD form and must be accompanied by a letter stating that SotA has the right to screen your film/s at any of our venues through 2007. New permissions will be requested for 2008. Please include contact information, biographical information of the filmmaker, a synopsis, suggested rating, time, and the film or filmmakers connection to Iowa. All films will be kept in perpetuity in the Summer of the Arts Iowa Picture Show Library of films.  Filmmakers will be notified as to if and when their film will be screened.

Thank you for your interest in Summer of the Arts!
